Correction

In my ‘rant’ of March 26 I quote David Cameron answering ‘yes’ to a question from Ed Miliband. 

I quoted the answer correctly but got the question wrong.  As a result, I had Mr. Cameron saying the opposite of what he actually said.

I wrote: “The question asked was whether the government plans to raise the value added tax….” 

‘No’ would have been the answer to that question, but it was not the one that Mr. Miliband posed.  What he actually asked was whether Mr. Cameron would ‘rule out’ a rise in the value added tax – to which the answer was ‘yes’.

I stand corrected by an alert reader.
